Picturesque Glenturret Estate was the perfect venue for members of Scotland's Moorland Forum to meet with Roseanna Cunningham, MSP, Minister for Environment. The meeting, held on Thursday 9th July, was hosted by Lord Lindsay, Chairman of the Forum, and by Alex Seldon, owner of the Estate.
Lord Lindsay welcomed the Minister, and introduced the aims of the Forum's work programme for 2009 - 2010, which will focus on three main areas: upland economics, upland birds and carbon. There was the opportunity for Forum members to discuss these issues with the Minister, and to engage in lively debate in a moorland setting, which provided many practical examples of the challenging issues which face the uplands.
Lord Lindsay said, "We were delighted to welcome the Minister today, and to engage with her on matters of fundamental importance to the future of our uplands. We valued her input to our discussion and will welcome future dialogue and the opportunity to harness the collaborative nature of the Moorland Forum to the aims and policies of the Scottish Government"
Roseanna Cunningham, Minister for Environment, commented, "My meeting with members of Scotland's Moorland Forum at Glenturret was an opportunity to talk about a wide range of important issues for the uplands and proved to be both interesting and informative. We also had useful discussions about the Forum's planned work. The Forum has a wide range of expertise and I am confident it is well-placed to come up with solutions to the problems currently facing moorland managers."
