Peatland Update December 20132020 LU&F Briefing Paper
This paper is available from the 2020 Group website and it was prepared to provide a briefing about the value of peatland restoration to business leaders who might wish to consider investing in peatlands. Initially this would be for Corporate Social Responsibility purposes but in due course this might develop as a compliance market is established.
Support for Peatland Events
Under the GSPRP, and in support of the development of the National Peatlands Plan, a series of events are planned across Scotland. Assistance with staging these events will be sought from organisations and experienced contractors familiar with an area of Scotland. If anyone is interested in helping to run these events, and perhaps more besides, please contact the Director.

Peatland: Carbon Sequestration and Peatland Restoration Inititatives
(May 2013) SSE Renewables are proposing to provide funding for the Peatland Working Group to develop a peatland restoration project. A copy of the initial proposal document can be viewed here.
A meeting was held on 23 May 12 with the SSE Head of Property, Bruce Keith, and a summary of the discussion is available here.
Further discussions will take place at the 2020 Land Use & Forestry Group meeting in June, and at a planning meeting with SSE in July. The support of members of the PWG will be requested to assist with the development of this concept.
IUCN Peatland Programme - Commission of Inquiry on Peatlands
This report, the culmination of 18 months work, was launched at a reception at Holyrood on 16 November 2011. It highlights the multiple benefits of peatland conservation and restoration, particularly in relation to carbon savings, cleaner drinking water, wildlife conservation and historic archive preservation.
